FAQ

What days do xxx div play games?

It will depend.  There are typically two games per week.  Home games are the same time every week, unless there is a conflict (ie tournaments) and away games could be any day.

What days and times are Practices?

It will depend on what the coach sets up, but at least one practice per week will be in the same location at the same time and day every week. Coaches also have the option to add additional paid practice times to the schedule which are indoors.

Who is the Coach?

Coaches will be assigned to teams either just before or just after evaluations

Can I request my child play with a friend or for a certain coach? Or ask not to practice on a certain day?

For mini-tyke and tyke:

We will try to accommodate 1 request per child, excluding coach requests. We will ask that parents request the 1 most important thing. If it’s a friend, carpool, a night or time not to practice, or location...we will try our very best to honor 1 request per kid.  We cannot guarantee that we can accommodate every request, only that we will try our hardest. Tyke teams and Mini Tyke teams are required by BCLA rules to be balanced. First and foremost we must in all good faith try to meet that goal.

For any other division:

We do not accept requests, unless there are special circumstances. Please contact your division coordinator if you have a special circumstance(please NOTE: Carpooling, being on the same team as a friend are not considered special circumstances).

What equipment is required?  Can I get it used somewhere?

Helmet, facemask, mouth guard, Shoulder pads, Kidney pads, Jock/Jill, Slash guards and gloves, and stick. See website for further details on these items and approved stick sizes: http://www.coquitlamlacrosse.ca/default.aspx?p=equipment

When do games start?

2016 Games will start the week of April 11.

How long is the season?

Regular season is April 11 to the end of June.

NOTE: Play downs for Provincials start in Late June - July. A subset of teams at the Peewee and above will have this opportunity. A subset of Novice players will play into the first two weeks of July for a tournament held in Burnaby

When will I know what team my child is on?

Your division coordinators will be working feaverishly with the coaches to get the teams figured out. Most levels will not know until early April, as assessments and tryouts will start in March and continue through the first week of April. Multiple teams in a division (tiered, tyke) need to be balanced per BCLA rules, so further movements can happen as the season starts.

Check your division home page and expect to hear from your coordinator as we get closer to March.

Why do we have so many A1 and A 2 teams?

We are governed by the  Lower Mainland Minor Lacrosse Commission. The commission has rules in place that dictate to us how many teams we must place at each level.

For example:

5 CMLA teams in a division we must declare at least 1 A1 and 2 at A 2.

6 teams in a division we must declare at least 2 A1 teams.

7 teams in a division we must declare 2 A1 and 2 A2 teams.

Do you offer beginner/novice level girl’s lacrosse programs or camps?

In February each year, the club runs a “fun lacrosse” entry program for girls aged 9-16. Navigate to the CMLA website, choose “Registration” from the top and click on “Girls Lacrosse Camp”. This will get you to the registration form. Registration usually opens up in January.

When does registration open for ‘fun lacrosse’ and what times are they usually held?

Registration for Fun Lacrosse usually starts in January. Typically run on Thursday nights for 4 weeks. Sessions usually are an hour long starting at 5pm, 6pm and 7pm

Do kids wanting to play for Coquitlam have to live in the community?

Yes.  You are required to play in the town you live in.  Proof of residency is required.

What gear is required for ‘fun lacrosse’?

‘Fun lacrosse’ does not require any equipment, just running shoes and athletic attire.

My son's date of birth is Nov 2005. Although he is not born in the years shown on the "introduction to lacrosse", he's close enough that we were wondering if he would be allowed to register?

If you are a year ahead the years listed, you can still register to give it a try. Please prepare your son that he will be one of the oldest kids participating

I have some lacrosse equipment that I am wanting to sell. Do you have anyone that is needing it? I have tried taking it to a sport store, but they don't buy used equipment

Kidsport has two sales a year, you can drop the equipment off at Cyclone Taylors or at Porier for the sales.

The registration date has passed - is it too late to register?

Depending on the age of your child, depends on when registration closes. Once teams are declared and full, those who register late will be put on a waiting list and can be “released” to other clubs looking for players.

We live on heritage mountain in port moody, does that mean I have to register with port moody club?
