Update on 2021 Season Startup
We would like to provide an update on our Return-to-Activity for the upcoming Box Lacrosse season. We are extremely encouraged by recent comments made by both the Premier and the Provincial Health Officer on getting youth sports back to playing games shortly.
While this is positive news, there are still some hurdles to overcome and your Executive will continue to work on solving roadblocks that may delay or prevent our kids from getting back to playing.
One such roadblock that we are aware of is the loss of the Coquitlam Forum this Box Lacrosse season as it has been put forward to Fraser Health to be used as a mass vaccination location. We are also losing some floor allocation in the Main and Rec Arena due to mandatory 30 minute cleaning blocks between any team change-overs. This will require some time tightening and the use of outdoor boxes to augment our time requirements. Again, we don't know if we will be in Association Games only, Cohort Games or Health Region Games. More information will be coming out from ViaSport and BCLA soon.
We know everyone is anxious to get started and with that in mind, we are going to start Division-level practices. We will simply divide the players into equal numbers per team and the Division Coordinators will be scheduling sessions in the Outdoor Boxes to start. The Rec Arena will be available to us towards the end of March and soon after the Main Arena will be available. We will move practice sessions inside as soon as receive notice from the City that the floor is ready.
Our plan is to start team practice sessions starting the week of March 22nd. Please keep an eye out for an email from your Division Coordinator with your team and practice time.
Please be patient as we get things started up and please follow all COVID protocols that are put in place to support our players returning.
We are still on the lookout for Coaches and Assistant Coaches. Please contact Bruce Murray if you are able to Coach at email@example.com
